2007 EXL V6 OIL CHANGE??
Hi, I just recently purchases a 2007 accord EXL V6. I am at about 2600 miles and the oil life is @ 60%. When do I go for my oil change? This will be the first one. Do I take it in at 3000 miles or do I wait until the oil life is lower?? Please help. I did not see in my manual when to take it for the initial oil change.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

First change should be 500 to 750 miles.
There is a considerable amount of fine metal particles during the first 2000 miles.
Most ALL gasoline engines instruct to change very soon the firsttime - even a lawn mower engine.
Believe it or not.
If you don't believe it - just hold the drained container of oil, from the first or second change, up the the bright sunlight and look at the billions of metal filings floating in it. These are hard on the neoprene seals throughout the engine and the filterdoes notremove aLOT of them.

Honda is adament about NOT changing the factory fill early. It has a large amount of moly and other additives that help the engine break in. Prior to the oil life monitor 5000 miles was the magic number. You're good to changeat 5K regardless of what the oil life monitor says.DO keep an eye on the dipstick while the engine is breaking in. Mine used 3/4 of a quartduring break in. Top off with any brand name dino 5W20 if needed.
Having said that I changed mine to Mobil 1 0W20 @ 3300 miles and it has not used a drop since. 3750 miles was considered the severe usage schedule so essentially anywhere between that and 5K would be fine.

Dead Wrong according to Honda due to them using a specially formulated break in oil. I always changed my oil on a new car by 1000 miles and I agree with most of what you are saying. In this case it does not apply.

Depends on what year manual you're looking at. My car says 3750 for severe and there is no oil life monitor. Aside from that what idiot would keep the factory fill in the engine for 10,000 miles without a used oil analysis? They also say to change the oil filter every other oil change! That's great for longevity.....right. The engineers have their say but it's the bean counters that win out. All manufactures are trying to show how economical their cars are to own. This is done by extending things like tuneups, fluid changes, and the like.
If your dealer told you 10,000 miles was severe use you need to find another dealer. If that's severe usage they are inferring that the oil will go much longer than that which just ain't so, not with dino oil. Some synthetics will go that far, some will not.

Honda owners manual and dealer said 10,000 miles or go by monitor. (for severe use). Why second guess the auto engineers??

anytime you drive the car mostly in city stop and go traffic it is ( severe driving condition ) I have said it a 1000 times and i will say it 1000 more ..Do you want your engine to last 300,000-400,000 miles??? change the oil and filter every 3000 miles ,, if you use syntetic oil change it every 5000 miles ..
