Default 2008 Accord 20k miles, need opinion on brakes.

i have an 2008 accord bought in 10/2007 and i just hit 20k for some reason the brakes have started squeling. so i took it to brake check and watched them do everything. the rear pads are gone and the rotors need turned but the front pads look brand spanking new like when i got it serviced recently they changed them. my question is should i say something to honda because this doesn't seem right at all. the rear pads get very little of the stopping power yet they go bad first and very quickly. since the front brakes look new should the rear pne's really have gone bad this quickly.

That does seem odd. Front pads have the braking bias and should wear out quicker. I usually change my rear shoes every other time I change my front pads on my car.

One thing that would make them wear out faster would be brake drag in the rear. Checking the slide pins on the calipers (if you have rear disc brakes) and making sure they are properly lubed would be the first thing to look at.

Rear brakes do less work, but Honda also sizes them smaller. Both my 95 Integra & 98 Accord used rear brakes faster than front.

Still, check fordragging calipers in the rear.

I have a 2006 EX Accordwith 99k and I just replaced the rear brakes for the first time. The front brakes are only half worn out. At 20k you should'nt be having to replace them, unless you have a problem. Sounds like your brakes are dragging. How's your gas mileage? You can check to see if your brakes are working is by driving your car and then take the temperture at each rotor with a temperture probe some ohm meters have them. That's how we check the race car's when they come off the track.

Out of curiosity, what temperature are rotors normally vs. rotors with brakes dragging?

When it happened to me, they were very VERY hot. But the dragging was also noticable from the way the car stopped when I wanted to coast the last foot or so.

I suppose a caliper can be dragging just a little, so it doesnt overheat so severely.

Default def a late reply to this but here we go

I have a 2008 accord ex 4 cyl and my car recently started making a squeaking noise. I just took into the shop today to figure out what the noise is and they told me my rear pads are gone. Not even worn, but GONE. I just hit 25K this month. It is completely ridiculous that these cars go through rear pads this quickly. I went on other forums to only hear the same complaints. Good luck making the pads last but the mechanic told me he has seen these pads go as quickly as 15K. I would advise a ceramic pad for the rear if they make them. I have not looked into them yet, but i would NOT and WILL not use another Honda brake pad.

GOOD LUCK

I have 48k on my 07 EX and supposedly the pads have never been replaced. I checked them today and both f/r were all 1/2 worn. I replaced the fronts (used Advance Auto Wearever Ceramics cuz I had a deal on them). But I can figure out how to swing out the calipers on the rear? Anyone know how?

I normally remove both caliper slide bolts. Not so much "swing" the caliper out, but pull it straight. There's a nub stamped into the pad backing plate that has to slide inside the slot of the caliper piston.

Also... You know you can't push the piston straight in (for example using a C-clamp). You have to twist it because of the handbrake auto-adjust mechanism.
