Default 2008 sedan v6 random rpm spike in 3rd gear - VIDEO

YouTube - Honda Accord 2008 v6 RPMs random spike

RPMs just jump and drop a few hundred over and over at constant speed.. I noticed it just driving at constant speed over level road. Seems to only happen in 3rd gear. Even tried it with cruise control, which is what is in the video.

Anyone know what could cause this? Going to dealer next week and don't want some lame excuse from the techs... Thanks!

This could be the torque converter lockup hunting on/off. Not sure why, perhaps faulty solenoid valve or hydraulic problem. Is Check Engine Light ever on? If yes, get the code.

good luck

Could the VCM be cutting and re-firing cylinders? Causing the rpms to change, but not the speed of the car.

Not familiar w/ VCM. Is this a V6 coil over plug, ignition spark module?

regards

variable cylinder management or something like that. Switches off some cylinders when it wants to. People have said it's not a completely smooth transition. But I don't think that would cause RPM to jump.

I'd say torque converter, or other trans problem.

Not dissing Honda or anything, but they cannot seem to build a good automatic transmission.

Sorry, off topic-mod's do as you wish/need.

Yes they had an issue with the 6th gens....All of the following have the original trans in them-366K on a 5th, 245k on one 3rd and 200k on another 3rd gen...take care of the auto trans and they will take care of you...IMO.
