Intermittently, my '10 Accord makes a whining noise in 2nd or 3rd gear. Not often, and not in any specific environment or at any given engine speed. Happens a few times per week, then nothing for a few days despite similar driving routine. Very strange, have owned many manual Hondas and never heard this. Only 38,500 miles. Last few days, I've noticed a bit of heat-shield type vibration noise when first idling in garage in the morning. Related? Hard to tell. Hesitant to take to dealer given intermittent nature. Can't imagine transmission problems this early, esp. with the manual.

I would take it in anyway - at least you now have it "on record" with them.

The two might be related, so have them inspect the heat shields as well.
