2014 Security Key issues
My recently acquired 2014 Accord came with only a valet key. I had the dealer program a factory key fob but he couldn't get the car to respond from the fob. I had other new keys and fobs and he said they would not program to the car. As with most "new" keys, they start the car and it immediately dies from lack of security clearance. The valet activation lock at the door is not present. It was removed by a previous mechanic or owner. I am assuming the valet removal disabled the security controller. The car locks and unlocks with the door switches. I am going to begin at the missing valet switch at the driver's door but would appreciate guidance if I could get the remotes working without doing a replacement of that assembly, at least with a new assembly. Maybe I'll source a used one. The dealer didn't mention his mechanics opinion on why the fob didn't get a response. Seems his diagnostic tool should have indicated something, if they were using it to program the new key to the system.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
I went to the local parts yard and found a similar car. The switch by the trunk/gas release is not involved in the remote issue. It is merely a disabling mechanical switch to protect the trunk and possibly the gas filler. Thanks in advance if you have any clues as to my remote failure to program issue.
I didn't realize the valet switch you mentioned was different than the glove box switch. Were you able to repair the valet lock at the door?
It is a tough call on what to troubleshoot next. The easiest place to check is the harness that goes into the door for any obvious wiring damage from opening/closing the driver's door.
If you bought the car from the previous owner, you can try to reach out to get more information.

No, I bought it thru COPART. It has a clean title but had hit a deer and cracked a headlight, dented the hood, and put small hole in the bumper cover. It has a crappy paint job from somebody near Spartanburg SC. I found there is no wiring to the "valet control" keyhole at the gas door/trunk open lever. It's just a mechanical disconnect for one or both functions of that lever. All the doors lock/unlock from the driver door switch and turning the outside key twice unlocks all doors, and one turn only the driver's door as it should. Just nothing from the fob and it's new from the Honda dealer. I'll try my aftermarket programmer with the "ebay" keys now that I have a dealer key to enable the aftermarket programming.
Yes the dealer cut key allows driving, just as the valet key that came with the car. I have an SBB programming unit that I successfully used to program 2015 Accord keys with, It requests a preprogrammed key to allow programming more keys. The dealer programming apparently only took the programming to the valet level. Should I return to the dealer or spend more money at another dealer? The dealer cut key is cut slightly different than the valet key. I think a little bit longer slot is what differentiates the valet from the full service key, and the dealer key is a bit longer in the slot. Thanks again for your help. The dealer only charged me $60 plus tax for the "valet key fob". I think I remember him saying he didn't charge the full price because the tech couldn't do the full programming.
