Default 2016 Accord Touring V6 Oil Capacity

Hello all,

I want to get input on those who have changed their own oil on a 9th Gen Accord V6. I have always done my own oil changes on all my vehicles and never trust what the manual says when refilling the oil. From my experience sometimes it’s correct, sometimes it’s not. I always trust the dipstick. The manual calls for 4.5 quarts w/ filter change. I have just completed my third oil change on this vehicle and it seems to get the oil right at the full mark, it takes slightly over 4qts. 4 quarts 4oz to be exact (yeah I know it petty but I have OCD when it comes to this). I check the oil with the engine cold on level ground with car sitting overnight. Every car I have owned and brought brand new, I have checked the oil this way after getting it home and it shows exactly on the full mark from the factory so I don’t agree with running the engine then checking the oil. Is anyone else with this specific model who do their own change the oil notice this? .5 quarts seem a lot and with past vehicles I notice maybe a .25 qt difference. I know the engine will be fine if it is slightly over the full mark but it makes me wonder if anyone else is seeing this.

Thanks.

Not specifically with that engine, but I normally rotate my tires while the oil is draining. Once or twice I did the oil without rotating the tires and then less oil drains out. I think it's just the process of jacking up the car one corner at a time that gets a little more oil to drain out.

I firmly believe that the dipstick is the correct measure to know if it's properly filled.

A .25qt difference is not a show stopper. If you put the extra in your stick will not show a visible to you difference. Now if you're talking about 1qt difference it would be something to really discuss. Check your oil by the dipstick is always the correct way to do it.

With the 4 cylinder engine, the oil filter goes on sideways, so you can't pre-fill it (like I can with my GM truck). In this case, I add almost a 1/2 quart of oil at change time, fire it up for a minute or so then shut it off and check the oil level again in a few minutes. It's usually pretty close to the top line(mark) on the stick.
