Default 5 speed shifting issue

On the way to work the other morning and the car next to me his tires kicked something up and I ran it over. Now when I shift into 2nd 4th or reverse its like its missing the bump stop or the cable is partially broken or something else. Its a 5 speed 2.4 litre 4door.

1st 3rd and 5th are fine. It's fine when in gear, drives great.

Rotten luck.
My 5 spd accords have been tranny bullet-proof, so will be interested to hear what it is ...

I'd probably take it a friendly oil change place (Sears? or a better local one), explain issue
and ask to take a look underneath while it's up in the air having the oil serviced.

I have a great mechanic that will diagnos the issue and give me a quote to fix at no charge so I plan on doing that as soon as I find the time. I'll report back me findings. Thanks for the suggestion.

Seems just a bit weird because the cables are up on top of the transmission. Pretty unlucky hit for that kind of damage.

Cables? the manuals are ran by cables? Oh my.

yeah that sounds kinda odd to hit something and now if I'm understanding correctly can pull the stick back to the console?

I think #5 & #9 are the cranks where the cables attach. Have a look at them...

OK, I got this fixed yesterday and wanted to update everyone.

First, the object I ran over had nothing to do w/ my shifting issue, it was just pure coincidence that they happened at/about the same time.

Second, on the 5speeds, there are 2 cables inside one thick cable running from the shifter to the top of the transmission. Once cable controls 1st - 5th gears, the other cable controls reverse. My reverse cable snapped and my 1-5 cable was almost snapped.

I can tell you that now that i have new cables, the shifter feels like it's brand new, right off the showroom floor shifting. It's crazy the difference.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions, this forum has been a great source of knowledge for me.

BTW, the cable was $150 and the labor was $200.

Excellent, glad you got it. Thanks for posting the end of the story.

BTW I noticed my mistake... that picture in post #6 is for a 1997, from Hicksville's signature. Very different transmission, but still a cable shifter.
