87 accord revs high

I have a 1987 4cyl auto accord. When the car warms up the rpms go to 3500 and stays there until after you shut it off and it cools down,Thanks

DX and LX are carb models...LXi has fuel injection.
First step is to OPEN THE HOOD and check that there is slack in the throttle cable; many times mental midgets adjust the idle by pulling the throttle cable tight.
