89 w/Carb: HIGH IDLE PROBLEM
Hi, my 89 Accord has over 290k on it, and I want it to go over 400k!
My problem now is that the air conditioning belt came off, and it raised the idle to about 1750 at all times. I hate that and I don't want to put another belt on because I figure the gas mileage would only be better without the belt on since the a/c doesn't work anyway, and there would be less drag and gas used if I could only manually lower the idle.
The screw won't adjust it at all down because it must be set up to have an adjusting range only with the a/c belt on. I tried to rig a spring to hold the vacuum idle-raiser mechanism thing back towards the front of the car, but it seems the computer or something is compensating and raising the idle to about 1900 now with the spring in there to lower it.
Does anyone know what I mean with this set up and have any knowledge or experience if this is possible or if I should just get an a/c belt put on? The a/c compressor wheel spins but seems shot because it has a lot of sideways freeplay that might have caused the belt to shred in the first place.
THANKS A LOT!

RE: 89 w/Carb: HIGH IDLE PROBLEM
The car should be ok without the AC belt on. The idle control that you tweaked is likely only the high idle, not the base. IDK much about an '89, but I know a few guys here that do. .... they'll visit this thread soon.
