Default 90 Accord Transmission Electronics

Hello everyone,

Hoping someone here can help a brotha out ! I have a 90 accord EX and Ive had some strange issues with it since I bought it....My S light keeps blinking all the time when the car is in gear even though S mode is not engaged...when I do engage S mode it works fine...but the light is always blinking even when Im on D. Another thing here is that my car sometimes seems to get stuck on a gear for a little longer than it should...and that happens a lot with the lower gears, for instance 1-2 and 2-3 --- also when Im braking the downshifting is very rough....Im wondering whether this could be an electronic issue and how to diagnose it to see whats wrong....or for that matter who to take it to to get a proper diagnosis?

Thanks

above the passenger side kick panel you can find a BLUE 2 pin connector.
Jumper the connector with a paper clip and turn on the key; then count the 'S' light blinks to get the trans code.
BTW is your speedo working?

I think on 1990 models you have to look at the led on the tcm.

The speedometer does work - but someone told me that it was probably the speed sensor which is why the S light was blinking so I had the speed sensor swapped...it did not fix the S light blinking issue and now my speedo sometimes doesent work...like it jumps up and down - sometimes it work sometimes it doesent...

We can't tell you what to do until you get the error code stored in the TCU or ECU. Post that code after you follow the instructions in the link below:

http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/howto/cel.html

I am not sure if you count the flashes on the CEL light. You might have to pull the carpet back and count the flashes on the LED on the TCU.

W/ the 90 EX you count the S light flashes for TCU code or read the TCU LED directly on the TCU under the pax side carpet. RH LED window in the ECU/TCU module.

good luck

Code 17 is ECU code for VSS fault. This was flashed by CEL or you read the ECU LED. There are two LED's in the assy under the pax carpet. They are near the center of the module, and the LH window is the ECU LED, and RH window is the TCU LED.

Code 17 should be paralled w/ a code 4 in the TCU. Did you check the TCU LED or the D4 light flashes w/ the service check connector shorted?

New VSS can be purchased on ebay for ~$25.

good luck
