Default 91 Accord.....Should I Buy?

Hey, I am new here and looking into buying a cheap reliable second car, I am looking at a 91 Accord EX coupe, 5speed, it has 200k miles on it, seems to be in good shape, no usual rust but I am wondering is there anything I should look at as some problem sport beyond the typical rust on the rear quarters and CV boots? Also anyone have any good experiences with this year and model? Pic below of the car

That engine has a very good reputation; you might want to check with the seller about the Timing Belt, to find out if it is really old or just been changed.

Pull out each plug wire from the valve cover and inspect them for oil. This is usually not too much of a concern but you could get the price down further if you find this.

With engine cold start up the car and then put gear selector in neutral right away. Notice if there is any erratic idle like the rpm revving up and then falling rapidly.

Itd usually something simple like carbon bulid-up in the idle air valve or a loose fast idle valve...maybe even an air bubble in coolant system. If its pointed out to the seller maybe you can knock the price down.

I second the motion, and also the water pump, seals, etc., under that timing cover.

I'd also check the struts and coil springs - just turn the wheel to both detents and look at the bottom couple of turnsof each front coil spring. Mine were cracked there and I saw another 92 having its cracked front springs changed while I was in the dealer for a failedalignment.

Also, it's real easy totry the brakes and see if there's and pulsing. Pulsing, or grabbing, would indicate warped rotors.

Good luck.

before you buy it, take it to a shop that specializes on Hondas or the dealer and ask them to do a buyer's inspection .. it might cost you 60-80 dollars but it will be well worth it
