Yea the lower ball joint on the driver side was ripped, I simply replaced it cause I have some extra new parts laying around from my last accord. I bought a suspension kit for around 100 bucks that included tie rods, ball joints, bushings, and upper control arms. So I had new ball joints left over from it that I used. Might as well, I pay zero for labor since its me and friends doing it.

 

Which CV boot photo is near where you found the grease on the steering rack boot? All the clamps look like OEM Honda which doesn’t help us.

 

The first photo in the first posts of this thread shows the boot on the tie rod on the passenger side. It had a smudge of grease from the vac line on the boot. I whipped it off and have not noticed any recurring build up on it. And there seems to be no play on that side either.

Do you replaced the wheel bearing? I have same issue as yours. My CV boot is in good shape, driver side PS boot torn for quite a while. Recently, hear clicks when turn the wheel all the way to the left. I was suspect the wheel bearing.

LOL well, I actually replaced the passenger side axle and the sound went away. So it is possible to have a bad axle with good cv boots. Id rather it be the axle then the wheel bearing. A wheel bearing can make a click sound but it will def make a scraping, humming sound before anything.

 

I think I told you that after your first post three pages ago, but I give you credit for telling us. There are some pretty talented people, who support this forum, but you didn’t give up and I am betting you learned a lot. It used to be very common to change just a CV boot and now everyone wants to just change the axles with the low cost of aftermarket axles.

Well hey ya know you were right I wont deny that. But, not only was it me, but even another friend who is a gear head that thought it wasnt the axle either. Until I just took it upon myself to just replace the axle and bingo it was the problem all along. So, I def believe now that axles can go bad without a ripped cv boot.
