91 not running
My friend just dropped off his 91 accord, it doesn't run and he doesn't want it. I've heard it may just need a timing belt, but I was wondering if it's an interference engine, and is there a chance I could save it? It's a 4-door and fuel injected.
Excellent chance of salvaging.
First step would be to rotate engine crankshaft to TDC and check camshaft is also aligned at TDC. This would confirm camshaft is aligned and timing belt is intact. Engine is an interference engine and operation w/ broken/slipped timing belt will almost certainly damage valves (bent valves). If this is case, head will need to be pulled, rebuilt, and reinstalled.
New timing belt, balance shafts belt is necessary unless you know these are in good condition.
Once engine timing alignment is confirmed, you would next determine whether fuel or spark is causing no-start. Easy way is to check for spark is to remove one plug lead, insert screwdriver into contact, and turn engine over w/ screwdriver near a good ground. No spark would indicate problem w/ coil or ignitor. If spark, then fuel delivery issue is problem.
good luck
