Default 92 lx ignition lock

Hey this morning I got into the car and put the key in the ignition and it wont turn whatsoever. No, the steering wheel wasn't locked either. Last night it got really cold though. Maybe the igintion was frozen? Stuck? I was thinking maybe just waiting for it to warm up or spraying some lock de-icer or maybe wd-40, or are those bad ideas? The car is a 5-speed if that matters at all, which I don't think it does.

do you have another key that you could try in there? the only time I have ever heard of a lock freezing is if you got moisture in there (dropped the key on the ground or something) Based on what you said I'd imagine you already tried turning the steering wheel back and forth as you tried to turn on the ignition....

Yeah, the first thing I did was try the spare key thinking my first one was bent or something. I tried forcing the spare key to turn but nothing budged. I may try a blow dryer before the de-icer though, seeing as i've never heard of people trying to spray that stuff in there.

i have never heard a ignit key not turning because it was cold anf froze up I have seen that happen with outer door locks but never an ignition key and i usd to live where temp in winter got to 70 below zero with the windchill ......
sparing wd40 in there is safe, try turning the key upside down see if that helps ......
Now if it does turn out to be a frozen ign switch i will be really shocked and first time i have heard it

graphite powder also works well for freeing it up (local hardware store)... it doesn't look like your missing a little piece off of either of your keys does it?

No the keys are both intact. I will try soon, I had the problem early this morning before school, and it has gotten a little warmer since. I'll get back to you guys and let you know what happens. Thanks forthe ideas though.

Hey I fixed it. I used a blow dryer in combination with the wd-40 and it finally turned. I'm not quite sure which one it was, but one or both of them worked.

Now that you did that and got it to open , I would get a tube of Powered Graphit and spray it into the door locks..
