Default 93 Accord New Clutch Master Cylinder has leak in strange place

Hello, This is a long story. I have had a slow leak in the hydraulic system of my 93 Accord LX 5 speed for a while now. I would just top it off now and then. (This car is almost at 300k. The clutch was replaced about 4 years/25,000 miles ago btw.) Adding fluid would fix it, so I didn't address the problem until last week when the pedal started sticking to the floor and finally one morning just wouldn't come up at all.

Husband changed out the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder. Then we had a pumping fest on the clutch pedal trying to bleed the system. It wasn't working at all. Turns out, you do not bleed the clutch system like you bleed the brake system.

So I went and bought some clear tubing and got a jar in order to do the "gentle" clutch line bleeding technique which seemed to be going great until we realized that most of the tubing line that we couldn't see was a large air bubble that was not being expelled and that most of the DOT was not actually making it into the jar.

We investigated and found that it was leaking out of what I think is called the "clutch line hole" on the side of the master cylinder. It has an allen/hex key adjuster in the center. The fluid appears to be leaking out of this when we attempt to pressurize the system.

Also of note, the fluid that did make it into the jar looked pretty dirty. We changed out the tubing between the reservoir and master cylinder and cleaned out the reservoir too in case that was the culprit.

My question is: Why is fluid coming out of such a strange place? I have attempted to close/tighten it but my hex wrench doesn't fit into the space well and I can't tell if I am tightening it or rounding it out. Should I have my husband take the master cylinder back out? He practically had to stand on his head to get it in there, so I'd like to avoid that if I can.

It is likely an assembly fixture that needs to be fully tightened to seal the hole. See attached picture from parts guide.

good luck

Great diagram thanks, do you happen to have the key that shows what everything is called? It'd be handy to keep on hand.
