check fuel pump relay
Had the same issue with my '98 Accord EX...after diagnostics were done it turned out to be the fuel pump relay under the dash. Wasn't getting spark so of course I thought it had to be the distibutor/coil or main relay but was advised to check the fuel pump relay and am glad I did. 60 bux and fixed. good luck bro

It probably is the main relay, but there is a simple test to do first. Always diagnose before throwing parts at the car.
Turn the key to the II position, but do not try to start the car. Listen for the fuel pump to turn on for about two seconds while the check engine light does the bulb check. It is a faint buzzing/whirling sound that comes from the back seat, so turn off the radio, blower, etc and listen carefully.
If that fuel pump noise is missing when the car will not start, and that fuel pump noise is present when the car starts, THEN replace or repair the main relay.

hey blue, I had this -exact- problem two summer's ago on a '92 Accord. It was -hot- day out, a 90 degree day, and after work, the car cranked and cranked but never started. The ugly part is that having no idea what the issue was and at that time I didn't have a local mechanic I had it towed to the dealer. Come to find out, that dealer that had done work for me before and fairly reasonably in cost is now completely un-reasonable and charging $110/hr alone for labor. > Anyway, as I'm talking to the interface repair rep guy, he says, "ya know, I wondered right away if this was the problem and since the car has been sitting in the hot sun all morning we'll find out as soon as you jump in to start it up." Yep, it was the PGMFI relay. The guy told me that generation car has this known issue where that relay eventually goes bad and prevents the car from starting in extra warm weather. Cost me $410 w/tow. A quick look now at rockauto, they have them for $23-$45 for my '92.
PAHonda- thanks for your post. Ya know, probably around that time I had noticed a few times that when I got to pos II with the key I did not hear the fuel pump kick in. It was intermittant at that time, would come and go. At those times I was able to start the car and just noticed this. Too bad back then I didn't know what this was saying, should have looked it up.
