Default 93 LX 2.2L Low Idle in Drive only?

My idle drops to 600rpms sometimes less, when I put it in drive or come to a stop. Itcauses the whole car to shudder. I have read the forum about the eratic idle...which is excellent..and plan to do that today, but wanted to know where the diagnostic plug is and how to read the codes out. I am going to clean the IAC, FITV, and hope that works..Do you guys think that this problem is the same as the erratic idle problem. It only drops in rpms when engaging the car in a gear....Help me out...please. Oh and can anyone provide the torque of the bolts for the IAC and FITV?

Suggest adding your year/model/trim to your signature line.

Use above link to obtain codes and post for help.

Problem does suggest IACV or other idle air problem.

Bolts are difficult to access for torque and torque is not that critical. I usually tighten to snug and perhaps 1/4 turn more, but feel is your best guide. Most of these bolts and nuts are 9 ft-lbs (6 x 1mm or 10mm socket size) or 16 ft-lbs (8 x 1.25mm or 12mm socket size). A good way to approximate correct torque is your known 3/8" ratchet leverage will be ~0.5 ft, so 9 ft-lbs requires 18 lb pull on ratchet and 16 ft-lbs a 32 lb pull. As long as you're close you'll be OK. A "click-type" ratchet makes this easy but is not essential.

good luck
