Default 94 ACCORD Clutch burned?

i been looking all over the internet trying to help me figure out if my clutch is burned, i bought the car and the clutch was bound to get smoked soon. i got the car real cheap so i didn't worry much. i don't know a lot about cars so im not completely sure if i burned the clutch. i knew the clutch wasnt in the best shape but didnt expect it to get smoked in a few days. when i'm driving the car revs up but not much speed is gained, this made me thing the clutch was burned. once i got home i popped the hood and it was smoking, it wasn't a thick smoke but a light smoke you could see if you looked closely. every tells me if the clutch is burned you would be able to tell from the bad smell it gives off, i smelled burned clutch and i was officially convinced the clutch was burned, my cousin came to my house and we went around the block to see if it was bad he later told me that he thinks the pressure plates are bad and that if my clutch was burned i wouldn't be able to shift into other gears while driving. i would like to at least be able to use this clutch until i get the hang of driving the car.

if anyone can help it would be great help.

Sounds like someone should have taught you how to drive with a clutch a bit better.
If you were taught correctly you would not have been slipping the clutch and you wouldn't have burnt yours up.

Yes your clutch is needing replacement.

As for your cousin who told you it is your pressure plate, not your clutch -- FYI he is pretending to know about cars but does not.

A clutch consists of 3 comportments

flywheel - bolted to the motor - doesn't wear out but can become warped
Friction Plate - round disk made of brake pad like material (this is the part most people refer to as the 'clutch'
Pressure Plate - a metal disk with springs on it _it pushes the friction plate onto the flywheel which makes the car move (in simple terms)

None of those being or not being wore out would prevent you from shifting 'into other gears'

put it in 2nd gear and dump the clutch, if it dies its got some life left.
if it slips in 1st get a clutch.
get over your fear of the clutch, take it to a hill going up (neighborhood less travelled) and stop, now learn.
best to smoke the clutch now rather than smoke a new clutch learning.
remember, the only reason for 1st gear is to get you into 2nd gear.
keep your left foot off the pedal when not shifting.

good advice from Kyle ^^^. Once you're moving you want the clutch to be either engaged or not engaged;
after you're rolling you don't want any time spent inbetween - in the friction/slip zone.

@Dee
Are you going to change the clutch yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

I just bought a new friction plate from Ebay and it came with a clutch alignment tool all for $38

depress clutch pedal, put in first gear, apply throttle as you let up on the clutch.
honda uses a hydraulic clutch so its soft but effective.
find a parking lot and practice, practice, practice.
a few snaps of the neck and 20 minutes of frustration and in no time youll be a pro.
dont drive the car in traffic until you get confident. dont want to stall pulling a left turn in front of oncoming traffic.
you never want to slip the clutch, thats what burns it, go from disengaged to engaged in the least amount of time without herkyjerkies.
its a right of passage for a driver. youll laugh at this a year from now and be grabbin gears around town amazing your friends.
