Let me try to understand the situation. The driver power door lock does not work, either by the electric switch or manually trying to lock it.

To manually lock the driver side door, you have to pull the outside door handle and then manually press the lock button (this is a feature to prevent locking yourself out accidentally). Have you tried pulling the door handle, then pressing the lock yet?

Regarding the buzzing, most likely one or both of the rubber bump stops inside the door lock actuator has broken off. The gear is going past the point it should normally stop at and making the buzzing noise. If this went on for too long, too many of the gear teeth inside the actuator may have broken off and the whole actuator needs replacement. If only one or two teeth broke off, it may still be okay. The rubber stops normally can be glued back. You can remove the actuator to try to see the problem. See this thread:

What about sitting inside the car with the door close, can you manually lock it? Also, can you lock the driver door from the outside with the key? If not, then it may be a problem with the door latch or rods connected to the latch.

Ok I didn't know you had to pull the handle and shut it and that worked it still made a buzzing soud but it did lock....my guess is the actuator will need to be replaced it has done it for me a couple of time and the previous owner said it did it for years but atleast now I know how to lock it

I would open up the actuator first to see what's wrong. See my link above to view how the actuator looks like inside.

i would have to agree with redbull , sounds like a faulty door lock actuator

Just to add a bit of info, if you hold the inner door handle open, the lock will work manually as well....bad habbit of mine is when I open the door after driving, while still holding the inside handle open I lock the door
