Default 94 Accord EX - Brake Peddle drops

Hello:

Recently I notice that my brake peddle started to drop as I applied the brakes when coming to a stop. Having read through the forum and some expericnce I concluded that it may be the master cyclinder. Since it has never been replaced, I decided this needed to be done. I installed the the new part without any difficulties and bleed all four brakes. I first bleed the brakes with the engine running but the peddle pressure never got hard. I turned off the engine, re-bleed the brakes and this time the pressure was good until I started up the engine. The brake peddle has no pressure and drops when stepped on. I checked for leaks but did not see any. The car does have ABS. Does this need to be bleed as well? Can it be the cause of the problem?

Thank you in advance

Sounds like a master cylinder problem to me as well.

Did you bench bleed the new master cylinder? Search trotrlIG2sk on YouTube for a great video from ericthecarguy on how to do this.

It can take more bleeding than you think. You should bleed each wheel cylinder until clear fluid w/ no air is returned. Refill reservoir as indicated. It should take over 8 oz of fluid (estimate) to bleed.

ABS does not require bleeding.

good luck

Thank you all. I will continue to bleed. I did some additional research and removed the master cylinder again and performed a bench bleed but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I will take a look at the video. In short, I filled it with fluid and pumped the piston until fluid sprayed out of the side ports. When I bleed the brakes, they released fluid and really no air. I did this a number of times with no change. As you say it can take more time than what I think. I will continue with the bleeding and let you know.

Regards

It's not impossible to have a bad master cylinder. So after a thorough round of bleeding, if brakes remain soft, it will be time to consider asking for a new part.

good luck

The only other thing I can think of is that you might not be bleeding it in the correct order. Thats happened to me before. I couldn't get a good pedal until I actually looked up the sequence. After that it was perfect.

After watching the video (which was very informative) I removed the master cylinder and bench bleed it. Got it to squirt out the ports - One squirted well the other did but not as good. Reinstalled - bleed the brakes - front driver, front passenger, back drive, back passenger. Brakes are still soft but better. Was my sequence correct? - continue to bleed?

Thank you

The order is back passenger, back driver, front passenger, then front driver.

Did you get a new master cylinder or did you get a remanufactured one?

Sequence recommended by Honda (94 Accord Shop Manual) is RR, LF, LR, RF.

good luck

Thanks for the sequence. I will give it a go. As for the master cylinder, it is new.
