Default 94 Accord EX maintenance required indicator

Hello everyone, I have a 94 accord the maintenance required indicator is red which means its time for an oil change...My question is what type of oil should be in this car. I just got the car and of course it did not come with an owner's manual nor did it come with maintenance records. The oil looks clean and don't smell burnt however, it has a light yellow tint to it. I was wondering if the previous owner may have used synthetic oil. Is there anyway of knowing? Another thing if it was synthetic does it have to stay that way or can I change it to regular oil.

The recommended oil viscosity for your model year car is 5W-30. You can use conventional oil or synthetic, even if the previous owner used synthetic.

The maintenance required indicator is mechanical and turns yellow when it nears 7,500 miles since it was last reset, and red when it goes over 7,500. The indicator reminds you when it is time for scheduled maintenance, it is only a mechanical counter. It can't really tell when oil or other items needs to be changed, as it has no sensors or a computer processor.

Thank you very much Redbull-1 for the information. I tried speaking to people at Honda but they continue to tell me they tell you how to fix your car. I wasn't asking them to tell me how to fix my car I just wanted to know what weight was recommended, I thought it was funny that they think giving you specs on anything from oil weight to tire size is telling yoiu how to fix your car.

And Silver6gen thank you for the welcome. I will be utilizing this forum very often. Once again thanks for help
