94 accord water pump and timing belt
Just bought my first Honda but I need to replace the water pump is it best to do the timing belt at the same time? Once I get it all back together what other things should I do to the car? Thanks for the help.
If you are changing the water pump, you might as well replace the timing belt, the balance shaft belt, and the tensioner. They belt has to be removed anyway. The other item to check is the retainer is installed on the front balance shaft sprocket.
Yup to what PAhonda said. Personally, I'd get a water pump and timing belt kit thru Rock Auto. It uses an Aisin pump, and includes new belts, tensioners, and genuine Honda tensioner springs. I've bought and installed 3 of them (on 3 different cars) in the past 2 years. It's a nice quality kit. You just have to make sure you order the correct one for your engine (V-TECH or non-V-TECH), as there is a difference between them. Also, order up the Dorman balance shaft seal retainer kit (it's like 4.95 versus 10+ at parts stores), as a precaution. I only mention it, as my wife's 2000 Accord spit that seal out in the driveway, and dumped 2+ quarts of oil in 30 feet.
I was glad she wasn't on the highway when it happened. I've since added 1 to each of the other Hondas I have here.
Just some food for thought.
