94 Honda EX Issue
Hello All
I'm new here and new to the Honda Accords. I have a 1994 Honda Accord Ex Coupe 5 Speed, you guys may be able to offer a hand I've dropped this thing off at a garage and they said the car did not do to them what I described. so let me tell you my story
I just picked this car up about 5 days ago and I have only put no more than 80 miles on it myself, It stalls at highway speeds or if I'm on surface streets and traffic lights or what have you. I haven't had time to do anything to the car myself but I noticed one thing after driving it away from where I purchased it. it has a switch that has been rigged to run the cooling fans inside the car. the speedo doesnt work but the tac does and when turning the ignition the oil and brake and charge light come on but the check engine light will not come on.
As I stated I've put about 80 miles on this thing and with the stalling that it does I don't feel safe driving it, and especially after taking it to a garage and them telling me they found nothing and the minute I drove the car down the street it stalled again. I'm being told from some Honda owners that it can be the fuel pump relay, the ignition switch, or a host of other things. I can start the car up and it'll idle low for a second then the tac will move towards 1 then I drive it and if I come to a stop I'll see the tac just drops to 0 and stall, I turn the key to the off position and let it sit for a second or two and turn it and it'll fire up but I come to another stop and it'll do it again. I know I'm not crazy I let my dad who's a retired mechanic drive the car and it did the exact same thing with him and he's never seen such sporadic behavior plus he's not a Honda tech either. that's all the info I have on the car because honestly I cant drive it much without it stalling. I think its an electrical problem after seeing how that wire was rigged that I described earlier in this post and it has an aftermarket radio that someone tried to install and I'm thinking something may have gotten crossed. But could it be an ignition or distributor issue I see its many variables. If anyone has had this issue please help

Thank you one other thing I left out the very last time which was yesterday that I drove it and it stalled I took the key out started it and the turns signals just stopped working and all of a sudden they came back on when I got to my sista destination and let the car sit
Oh yeah I forgot two things all the stalling pretty much happened if I had the radio on, or the heater on or both that's what lead me to believe its electrical and the issue that makes me question the ignition switch or wiring is that, when I open the car door the chime you would hear normally when the key is inserted to the ignition is going. you're only supposed to hear that chime when the key is in the ignition right? now with the key removed and just opening the door...

Ignore djkurious suggestions for now.
You really need to do some troubleshooting fist.
Since this car is new to you, I would probably do a tuneup. That would be spark plugs (NGK ZFR5F-11 plugs from any parts store). I would inspect the distributor cap and distributor rotor and consider picking those up from the dealership.
I would check for engine codes. There is a link in the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum with instructions.
Also, start the engine and let it idle. Try shaking the key and see if the engine stalls out.
What fan(s) is this switch turning on? What are the wire color(s) going to this switch? You may have to follow the new wiring in the dash to see what OEM wires were spliced.

Oh and to answer your question PAhonda as to which fan comes on, if you are sitting in the car the fan on the right side is the one that cuts on by this switch but the other one does nothing
Cool thanks PAhonda, my dad (retired mechanic)and I have been out here fooling with this car and the fan issue solved, hooked a scanner to it and it says bad idle air control valve
I've owned a 95 Accord EX VTEC for a year and a half. I don't have the stalling problem, but I've had the turn signals stop working. It seems to only happen occasionally when it's really cold outside (I live in Minnesota) and before the car gets up to normal running temp. I've never looked into exactly what the issue is because the blinker outage never lasts that long and occurs very rarely. Just thought I'd mention that to let you know the turn signal issue may not necessarily be related to the stalling problem. Good luck! Curious to know what you find out.
