95 Accord EX - - Grinding into reverse
Okay.
1995 Accord EX, 365,000 on the odometer 4 cylinder.
Recently replaced all engine mounts and radiator. Timing chain, water pump etc done about 50,000 miles ago.
Ran fine until a few days ago. Turning the car around, shifted from drive to reverse and had a grinding noise (pulsated really).
Fluids and general maintenance are up to date. Car has never given any trouble on the transmission side.
Drained fluid to check, no shavings, no sludge, nothing wrong. Has been around 30,000 since last change.
Will drive forward no problem, through all gears, but try and toss it into reverse and cover your ears.
Manual says bent fork, etc and pressure valve plugged, but would I be better served pulling the tranny and rebuilding it anyway? I checked the solenoids and they all clack loudly (for the most part).
Any ideas or advice? Car is in fantastic shape otherwise, so sinking a few hundred in in now is not the rough. Just trying to narrow down my options.
Thanks. Joe

When you shift into reverse, it immediately grinds and then pulses a little with the grinding still occurring. If you shift directly pass reverse into Drive, it runs through all gears just fine, no slipping, grinding or anything.
I'll get out there later today and make a video of it. I've tested my solenoids and they click on 12 volt and even ohm out at 15, so well within the specs.
The filters were clogged, so a quick clean and I will be putting them back on today.
Thanks.
