When I am driving the car the RPM gauge starts bouncing all over. I mean from 0 to 5000 rpm. The car does not bogg down or rev up with it. But it will downshift and up shift to early. Not so bad that you cannot drive it. Just sitting idle it will still bounce but idles normal. Happens at high speeds or if you drive it to hard. Does not happen every time. Any help or suggestions will be great as to what the problem might be.
Just changed Plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Check engine light is not on to check any codes
Thanks

The tachometer signal is generated from the ignition coil on the 95-97 V6 engines.
I would first check that the plug at the coil is on securely and that the terminals are clean. While you are in there, check the ignition control module.
You can test the resistance on the coil. I attach shop manual pic.
In my manual, it looks like the D terminal is the one that goes to the tachometer, but it doesn't specify a resistance. My guess is that if A-D or B-D is an open circuit, then the coil is suspect.
