Default 96 Accord Distributor

My son has a 96 Accord, 4 cylinder, won't start, and a repairman says is needing a new distributor. His price is $500+. Can someone validate that cost? Is it in the ballpark? I am clueless. Thanks.

New distributors are $200-300. Install should be less than an hour. Not a great deal...

It really depends on where you buy a new one. The installation is pretty simple. I bought one from a junkyard for ~$75 and have had it installed for about 3 years with no problem.

Did he tell you which component in the distributor failed? If it is the ignition control module, you can just by that. If it is a sensor (CYP, etc..) then you'll need to replace the distributor.
