I believe the advise you got about the D4 light is b.s.
On your car, you can check for codes the OBD1 way. Go to the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum. Open the link to checking engine codes. Post the code(s) on here. Tell us the codes the check engine and the D4 light flashes.

Alrighty, but basically the d4 light wont stop flashing and where the shift key goes it ticks like crazy im in the process of re charging my batttery to see the codes any thoughts?
update:
when i jump the ecu the d4 doesnt blink at all but the key hole by the shifter still is clicking like crazy

It sounds like you are having a problem with either the gear selector switch and/or the shift lock. You may want to remove the center console and take a look at the wiring. There are a few grounds in that area that you want to clean.
The common diy thread has a link for online shop manuals where you can get the 94 shop manual. The 94 is very similar to the 96. The ground locations and how to remove the console are identical between the cars.
