Default 96 accord slight random miss? while idleing

Hi all, i did check the sticky and teggers for help but my symptoms seem different........ engine was getting misfire codes a month ago, so cleaned egr, and replaced plugs, wires, dist and rotor, which got rid of the codes. It was running great until about a week ago, now it has developed an occasional stutter or miss. (when I was back by exhaust, it sounds like a single random 'cough' about every 5-10 sec or so). and it died when accelerating from a stop. Ok, so I jack it up on driver side, change the fuel filter, started it to check for leaks, and it ran worse than ever, coughing, missing? sounded like it would stall any second. (while it was jacked up). I let it down off the jack, and it smoothed out (mostly), back to random occasional cough, and stall on acceleration.
Am i still looking towards an igniter issue or .........
any comments or help is appreciated.

When you cleaned the EGR, did you clean the ports on the intake manifold? Is this a 4 or 6 cylinder accord?

What codes were you getting? I would reset the PCM by pulling the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box. I would start the car and let it run/stall and see if any of those codes return.

I think the codes were p0301, 0302, 0303, 0304, and one more, i don't recall. those codes were about 2-3 weeks ago, cleaning the egr didn't clear them, but the new wires did. They haven't come back since.....

If you pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel pressure regulator, do you get a strong smell of gasoline from the regulator? Pinch the vacuum hose, so you don't create a vacuum leak.

ok, no fuel smell at all from FPR. with car running. however i noticed while leaning over to sniff it, there is a click sound that immediately precedes the sputter.
Also, this is a friends car and she brought it over this morn for me. The sputtering is 10 times worse than it was the other day, almost consistant sputtering, coughing of engine, and she won't drive it now. No CEL either. Looks like this is my rainy day project

oh and the car doesn't stall unless you hit the gas pedal

I always suggest the maintenance items first. You put that you replaced the rotor in your first post, so I didn't suggest it. Glad you figured it out.
