97 Accord Distributor Removal
Good Day All,
Going to remove the distributor on my 97 Accord, 2.2 liter SE to replace the o ring due to oil leaking.
Just want to double check with some pro's on this. If I remove the 2 electrical connectors, 3 mounting bolts, and mark the position of the rotor, is that all that needs to be done?
Don't won't any timing issues or installation problems. The reason I ask is the manual mentions putting #1 cylinder and top dead center, and setting the timing?
Any help is appreciated, and have a good weekend!

The only other thing is note how much the distributor is tilted front or back, as that does some fine adjustment of timing, all the way back is retarded and forward is advanced, that is why there is some play in the bolts.
I have removed distributors more times than I could count and I have never put the #1 cylinder to TDC. And the rotor will only go in one way.

before you remove the distributor take a punch and small hammer and match-mark the adjustment lug to the head to get it back in time, put it at top dead center, remove the cap, and use a magic marker to indicate the rotor to the dist. housing. now remove the mounting bolts, slide out and indicate the removed location of the rotor with the marker. replace o ring and install with rotor at 2nd mark, once installed align match-marks and youre done.
the reason you put it at top dead center is a reference point in case you need to step away for a spell, its industry standard.
