Default 1983 Gen 2 1600 auto won't shift

Hi All,

I have a 1983 Accord 1600 with a 3 speed auto which I inherited from my aunt. Its only done about 85000 miles and has been well looked after and regularly serviced. I don't know how reliable to servicer is so I can't vouch for how long this problem has existed, but my "auto" box is really quite manual. It will drive in all 3 gears, but OD only engages 3rd, (*) second, and L first. So to drive around normally I have to shift myself. Not too bad really, but it could mask a problem and I'd rather have it sorted. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Best I've got on this gen.....if there is a throttle control cable, then I would look into checking it is adjusted and moving correctly.....

First thing I would do is drain the teanny. look for junk in fluid reload with honda stuff and go for a good hard road test valve body may have a valve hanging up. Oh yea one moor trick I remember is to put it up on jack stands and run hard in reverce may also have govener hanging up good luck

Thanks for the starting points guys, I'll post back soon. Got some time off work coming up so I can get it in the garage and pull it apart. Got an alternator to replace now while I'm at it
