Default 97 accord ex tranny/computer problem????

I have a 97 accord ex that the tranny went on (auto 4cyl vtec) and replaced it with a 95 accord auto tranny. Drove about 140 miles before speedo/cruise stopped working. Replace VSS and fixed that problem, however, today, all of a sudden while driving, tranny would stop working mid-drive, as if it was in neutral. Disconnected battery for 15 seconds and it worked fine again for 1/2 mile or so until repeated itself. Also noticed that when this happens , the power windows would "work" without key in the ignition, and until I disconnected battery for 15 seconds again, all would work as should until driving for 1/2 mile or so until it repeats itself again.... Wondering what it might be and if anyone else ever had this type of tranny problem which seems to be "computer related?"... Thanks for any advice. Car has 174K miles on it and 95 tranny had about 50k less than that. Works fine until what seems to be a computer trip or something???????? Thanks!

Not sure if related, but power windows working w/o key in ignition suggests a faulty ignition switch assy. This might have other effects also even w/ keyswitch in On position.

Check for obd2 codes. This may provide some guidance.

good luck

Hey thanks, I appreciate the reply(you're the only one!). I have a feeling its the ECU because the window problem is only "after" I drive a little and the tranny begins its "neutral" act. As soon as I disconnect battery and reconnect it, windows and ignition switch position works as it should. Its only after the computer does its thing that everything seems messed up. Once its reset, all works fine for a little bit. I think I found an ECU for $30 bucks though. Will give it a try, if not, I'm selling the car. Too bad though, the car is in original MINT condition and I like the 97 model in white! I'll still try to get $3k for it since its almost like new condition otherwise, and take my $900 loss... Oh well.... Would be a great ride for a real Honda mechanic! I'm just getting too old to deal with any stress...lol Just put in new struts, rear main seal, brakes..., just because the car was in mint condition and I though it deserved it..... I guess not, its spitting in my face!

Be sure to buy an exact replacement (part number) for your vehicle. We've seen problems when folks swap EX to LX and year/year variations.

good luck

Thank You TexasHonda, will do. The 95 probably wouldn't have worked after doing some more research thanks to your reply. Much appreciated, and I'll get the exact ecu that comes out of my vehicle! Saved me some time and cash I'm sure.... thanks again!
