Default 97 Honda Accord Vtec Problem

I have a 97 Accord with a 2.2l vtec. the check engine light stays on since i bout the car about 3 months ago. when I first got the car was running fine. it acted like it have a firing problem by just losing power here and there. would idle rough here and there. I have run the codes and the one that seems to always be coming up is the VTEC code. p1253 i believe is the code. i have put a new VTEC solenoid on the car and have done a complete tune up on the car and it has only gotten worse of a problem. took it to a mechanic and he has had it for going on 3 weeks now and still dont know what is going on. what would be some thoughts on this. i have looked all over the place and never really found anything that pertained to what is going on with my car.
Thanks

There's a single wire to the VTEC solenoid. I recently had my wire break at the connector. Make sure you have sound wiring.

You can check the solenoid for resistance. It should be a few ohms. You can download the 94-97 Accord manual from Online Manuals sticky post in DIY forum of this site. This will have solenoid resistance value.

good luck
