Default '99 accord lost A/C & dash lights

My A/C goes out while driving along with the dash lights, fan keeps going. Seems like the hotter the outside temperature, the less time it works. It works fine in mornings and late evenings. I checked fuses, changed relays, and added freon but didn't fix the problem. When lights go out, I have no control over defroster, almost got killed yesterday when the lights were out and drove into a rain storm, windows fogged up with no defroster. Suggestions?? Thanx.

A streatch here, but I'd go for a ground issue. Do you have a good manual? Check the Common DIY Threads if not. Also look at the section about HVAC codes .

I have an average shop manual from a local auto shop. I will check the grounds, however, I am fairly convinced that it is related to some type of sensor because it seems to be heat related. When the outside temp is below 90 it works fine, but when the outside temp gets near 100, it fails rather quickly. Last week when it was 104, it failed in about 30 seconds and didn't come back on. Typical, when you need it most, it doesn't work.
I have seen other descriptions on blogs that seem to fit mine identically, but I haven't seen any results, so there are others with the same issue. I need to get this fixed and don't want to pay a mechanic for 3 hours just to try to figure out what is wrong. Besides, if he and the car are in an air conditioned bay, it won't fail. Thanks for your advice.
