Default 99 Accord LX Power Steering Line Help Needed

I have a 99 Accord LX VTEC 2.3 4 cly 5 speed 4 door with multiple leaks on the power steering lines. Decided to replace them all, pressure and return, but WTF!!! How do you get to the line nuts at the rack & pinion? Tried from the top, tried from the bottom, tried from the left front wheel well, after removing the tie rod. Do you have to remove the entire Rack & Pinion to get good leverage on a line wrench? Or do you remove the brake reservoir/master cylinder and go from the top? Searched multiple forums, and all over the internet, and have the Chilton's, but don't see a procedure for replacing the lines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Frustrated, but not defeated....

They are usually very tight. IIRC years back, from the bottom of car, with crows foot line wrench like poorman212 said.

Thanks to Poorman and Redbull....crowsfoot flarenut wrench was the way to go. Removed left front tire and tie-rod, put on crowsfoot and ran extensions out the side to a breaker bar. Unfortunately, the line nut is rusted in and seized pretty good, despite soaking in PB blaster for 24 hours, and I rounded it off. I will be cutting the line, and pounding an undersized socket onto the pressure line fitting and trying to get it out, but will wait until I have a buddy to help because if that fails, I will be dropping the rack and pinion to get it where I can put some vice grips on it. I will take pictures and post them when I do the job.

Disappointed, but determined.

The craftsman "rounded bolt" sockets are great to grab a rounded nut or bolt. If you can reach, you should be able to remove.

good luck

Finally got back to this job today. Used a saws-all with a 8" metal blade to cut the lines off flush with the line fittings from the bottom. Then used the Craftsman Rounded-Bolt sockets with 1/2" extensions coming out the wheel well to a breaker bar. Pounded the sockets on with a 4 lb. plastic dead blow mallet. Still had to add a jack-handle on the end of the breaker bar, but firm steady pressure finally broke them. Will use the crow's foot line wrench to tighten the lines back up when I install them. Honda discontinued one of the lines, so I will be practicing some fancy tube bending for the "b" pipe on the return line. Sorry about the poor picture quality, but my nephew tore up the drivetrain on his 94 F150 today by putting some 22" wheels on it, so I was kinda in a hurry....

Thanks for all the help.

Patience and Persistence

If you take your old hose to a good hose shop, they should be able to fabricate a workable replacement.

good luck
