99 Accord V6 VERY intermittent starting issue
Hi All, I have been reading around but have not been able to find a problem quite like mine. Note - I have had this problem for quite some time - first occurrence maybe two years ago, but then months without recurrence. But in the meantime, for other no-start and hard-to-start issues, I have replaced the IACV (this past winter) and the Main fuel pump relay (two weeks ago). Both of these fixes seemed to work - car started and ran fine after them, and I had hoped that this one was also fixed. Also over the winter I had to splice a wire to bypass the driver's side fuse box to get the rear brake lights to work (long story, but redbull1 walked me through an extensive troubleshooting process that finally worked - thx again redbull1!) I believe this to be unrelated, but I thought you should know. But yesterday I had another no-start, although today it started up fine. So here's how it goes. I key on and with no delay turn all the way to start - my normal procedure. The engine starts to cough to life but never gets smoothly running, and then it dies. I try to start and and it spins freely, but no cough or sputter - nothing! If I wait an hour or so - or sometimes overnight - it has always re-started.
Just to recap - IACV and main fuel pump relay have both been replaced recently, but this issue predates their replacement.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can pass on!

Sean, Thanks for responding. No the starter is definitely turning over the engine - the engine is spinning, not just the starter.

I'd probably stop by a parts store and have them scan for codes. Post any codes on here.
If the starter is turning the engine and the engine will not fire up, then you will need to determine if your are missing fuel or spark.

So you have a crank but no start. If the pump is priming then you have to check spark (plugs and wires). Do you have a check engine light to check for codes? If so then read the codes. You have an that can be a few things and you have to eliminate
