There is a leak, but you haven't found it. Some suggestions;
1) look for oil/dirt accumlations arond connections, crimps, and compressor clutch. These are leak indicators.
2) Have a leak detection performed by an AC shop. An evaporator leak will not leave any evidence under the hood. After years of operation, brass/aluminum connections (expansion valve to evaporator) become fouled w/ corrosion product (white powder) which distorts the oring ane leads to leaks.
If you intend to DIY, add some PAG (perhaps 2 oz) to system and replace receiver/drier before vacuuming and charging.
good luck

FWIW, I had to remove evaporator from my 94EX due to leakage detected by gas sniffer. Mileage at this repair was 178K in 2004. I found the dissimilar metal corrosion on several connections. However, I had purchased a clean, used evaporator and replaced original after cleaning all brass/aluminum connections and replacing orings.
At same time I also replaced shaft seal on compressor when it failed vacuum leak test prior to charging.
System has held charge since then, however I had to discharge and remove evap to clean debris from the evap housing which was blocking the drain. I just drove today w/ nice cool air in very warm Houston conditions.
good luck
