Default AC went out and alternator belt snapped

Looking for some help here.
A couple of days ago I heard some squealing, flipped off the ac and it went away. The next day my ac does not work at all.
Fast forward to today, I hit a bump and started hearing some rattling.
I pulled over and found that the alternator belt had snapped.
My first thought is that the air compressor locked up and somehow caused the alternator belt to wear out....
Any thoughts on what's going on?

I'm going back to where I left my car first thing tomorrow to see if I can get something working and would love to hear some advice.
Thanks

EDIT: I should mention it's a 97 V6 Sedan

Try to spin the alternator and the a/c compressor pulley. They should both without much force.
