Accord 2008 rear brakes
Received the settlement notification in the mail but car is 4 years old and has not required brakes yet; getting close but way outside 3-year limit so repair will be on me. Anybody had any success getting Honda to pay for the pad replacement outside the settlement parameters?
Has the redesigned pad with the added springs solved the premature wear problem? I read where it was not the electronic braking system or pad size or material but that the springs were needed to keep the pad from rubbing all the time. Is this correct?

The rear brake settlement was handled by a third party administrator; so, chances of getting reimbursed outside of settlement period is practically nil. Also, your 3 year/36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty is over.
In general, I have not heard of same wear complaints with the revised pads. The revised pads were supposedly a different compound and included instructions with the pads were to check the upper and lower caliper slide pins and switch as necessary. Generally on most cars, V springs are more to help minimize vibration and noise.

So, what's the problem? If you replaced the rear pads at 20,000 miles and now have 47,000, you put 27,000 miles on the rear pad and they are half gone. That would approximate a useful life of 54,000 miles for the rear pads.

You're probably thinking that the rear pads wear should be about the same as the front. However, the front pads typically last 2 - 3 times longer than the rear pads. There are quite a few people that have seen over 100,000 miles before having to replace the front pads (the front pad life is quite a bit longer than on average for most cars).
