Default Accord engine clicking noise

Hi,

I am a new member here. I was having a little problem with my 2011 Accord recently and decided to join an online forum to share my experience. Hope the info will help other Honda owners. The problem was fixed by a Honda dealer.

I recorded the clicking noise from my Accord engine and posted it on youtube. Here's the link if you would like to listen to the noise.

Clicking/rattling noise from 2011 Honda Accord - YouTube

The noise is more loud and prominent when I rev/step on the accelerator/gas. You can hear then in the video clip. Long story short....I took it to the dealer and after some thorough diagnostics (the dealer had to call Honda America main office for advice on this problem), the problem was identified. The rocker arm was sticking/went bad and made the clicking noise.

The dealer/service advisor told me that there was a batch of bad rocker arms installed on new Accord (I forgot the years but 2011 was one of the years because mine is 2011 model) and it was not easy for Honda to track them down and get them all in for service. Anyway, if your Honda engine is making this kind of clicking noise, it could be the rocker arm.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

Default clicking/tapping noise is back

Hi,

Well, the same noise is back!!! it came back a few weeks after the rocker arm replacement. Took the car back to the same dealership on 12/17/11. After a couple there in the shop, they changed the VTC actuator and said the noise is now gone. While talking to the service manager on the phone, I asked him to make an oil change as well. I picked up the car late in the evening and could not hear the noise. I thought it was really fixed. The engine was still warm at the time. The next morning when I started the engine, I could hear the same noise. I called the dealership back and told them that VTC replacement did not fix the noise. They were also dumbfounded. They said everything checked out fine and that some Honda engines tend to be noisy. They said the noise is probably the lifter noise and it is normal. I am don't know what to do next......

1. Bring to another Honda dealer?
2. Contact Honda North America for further advice?

Any advice from fellow members here?

Thanks.

Got in touch with North America Honda in late Dec 2011 and shared with them a ticking noise video clip. They sent out a field rep to the dealer on 1/17/12 and had me bring the car in the night before. The field rep confirmed the ticking noise on cold start the next morning. They did a few checks such as oil pressure and valve spec. All within Honda's specs. Long story short....they finally did a 'Cylinder Head, Complete Assembly - Replace' job. This is all under warranty. So no charge and I don't know how much it would have cost if not under warranty.

What do you fellow members think about this cylinder head job? was it a big expensive job?

It is now 3 weeks plus and so far so good - no distinctive ticking/clicking noise. I am hoping this was the real fix. keeping my fingers crossed :-)

ps: Thank you North America Honda for their help.
