Default Accord trouble turning over - "da ta ta ta ta ta vrooom" - 2005

even when my car is hot, starting the engine takes longer than it used to. rather than starting immediately after turning the key, the engine turns but you hear, "da ta ta ta ta ta vroom", it starts.

it's not the battery, and I replaced the spark plugs

Is starter engaging but turning engine over too slowly to start? If yes, the check your battery connections carefully for corroded connections or corroded wires.

If all connections are good, you could have weak solenoid contacts that won't allow enough current flow to enable good starting. Starter replacement is usual fix.

good luck

Default starter

thanx, Tex. the starter was my next thought as well. the battery is new, and the cables appear clean (except for the goop they sell with the battery) and tight. will look next at starter.

This may or may not be related to your starting problem; but, may be worth a shot. There was a recall regarding faulty fuel pump relays before.

Honda TSB 07-020

Enter your VIN at the Honda America site, to see if your car is part of this recall or if it has already been done.

Default fuel pump

Honda dealer diagnosed a problem fuel pump. they said it doesn't require immediate fixing, but it will continue to deteriorate. their fix is $600. wow!

If your description of poor starter turn-over is correct, they are full of it. Fuel pump has nothing to do w/ engine turn-over.

Also engine runs OK once started, so fuel pump only affecting starting is very unlikely IMO.

good luck
