Default Actuating Bi Directional Tests

Aloha,
I'm trying to actuate bi directional tests with an AE Scantool on a 99 Accord Coupe (F23A1 & auto, PT1002 ECU). The scanner has OEM enhancements, & reads the sensors...but I can't enable systems tests because the SCS line is open. The only reference to an SCS line I have been able to find refers to using a service connector in the MES to reset the SRS light. I tried jumping the MES & retrying the tests with the same result...error, SCS line open.
What am I missing ?. I think that pin 9 in the DLC is for an SCS line, but I cant jumper the DLC & plug in my scanner. Iv'e never had any problems before. I'm waiting on a FSM, but can't find anything about SCS lines on alldata or online apart from instructions on how to use an OEM scanner that gives you an option to open or close this line.
Thanks in advance for any advice

What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

I am guess you are trying to monitor the live data stream from the ECU?

Are you doing this for performance reasons or trying to setup in-car data logger?

Hey Crispin,
There are a variety of system tests I am trying to perform so that I can monitor the results. I can data log, but on this car I can't perform tests because it keeps telling me the SCS line is open.
I am trying to determine why the cat failed before I replace it, & can test EGR, Evap, IAC etc. It is my wifes car & I may perform additional mods later, but I want to know why thus car won't let me run the tests ???

On your car, the SCS line is controlled through the 16P Data Link Connector (DLC). You can not use the yellow MES connector to ground the SCS line (see attached Honda Service News article image). Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) as well as certain scan tools, such as Snap-On have the capability to ground the SCS line through the 16P DLC. Note: The 16P connector is your OBD II connector.

Your AE scan tool may not have the capability to ground the SCS line through the 16P DLC (Data Line Connector). You would have to contact AE scan tool regarding if their tool has such capability.

See this link for your car's connector and the link after that for something similar to your AE scan tool.

This is an excerpt from Snap-on's scan tool manual describing enabling SCS with their scan tool.

Thanks redbull...& your right on the money. I got the FSM today, & spent this evening going over it. The SCS line can be opened or closed manually by jumpering the DLC or with a scan tool that supports it. Weird thing, is I can read & datalog from the enhanced powertrain, transmission, etc...I just cant actuate commands. I think it must be this ECU, because I can perform systems tests on all other models that I have enhancements for. I've got a Honda Odyssey coming in tomorrow, so I'm keen to plug that in.
Guess I'll have to phone AE & see if they have a fix for this car (:
