Question Adding an alarm to 07 Accord VP

Hello!

I have a 2007 Honda Accord VP (4 door, 4 cyl Automatic transmission, 49 state) that I bought new in 07. It has remote controlled door locks (and trunk, and panic alarm) on the keys. If you click the 'lock' button twice the horn chirps once as if it is setting an alarm, but there is no alarm system (nothing happens if you open the driver's door by unlocking it with the metal key for example). So, I'd like to add the Honda original alarm system. The VP does not have keyless entry nor do I need that.

I want to make sure I get the right one. It looks like there are two. I read somewhere that one is an alarm offered factory installed and the other one is also a Honda OEM part but it is an optional upgrade and has other features (such as a siren instead of just honking the horn) but I can't find any concrete information online about this.

When searching parts websites for my specific vehicle I found;
2006-2007 Honda Accord Accessories - Sedan Electronics
It lists the 08E51-SDA-101A / Attachment# 08E55-SDA-100A and says:"Application: 06-07 4dr VP, LX & SE"

However, this page ( Honda Accord Accessories - 2003-2005 Sedan Electronics ) says
08E51-SDA-101A / Attachment 08E55-SDA-100A are for Accord LX's and
O8E55-SDA-100B / Attachment 08E55-SDA-100B are for Accord DX and VP's. However, other sites don't have any such distinction, and I noticed the 08E55-SDA-100B is harder to find. This page is for 03 to 05, and I have an 07, but I thought it was weird that the 08E51-SDA-101A is for all models (VP, LX, and SE) of 06 and 07 Accords, but ONLY for LX's if you have an '03-'05.

So my questions are;

-What is the difference between the 08E51-SDA-101A and the 08E55-SDA-100B?

-Does one have a 'real' siren vs honking the horn? Are there other differences?

-I assume I should order the 08E51-SDA-101A / Attachment# 08E55-SDA-100A for a 2007 Accord VP, right?

-Would it even be POSSIBLE to install the 08E55-SDA-100B/ Attachment 08E55-SDA-100B in this car if I wanted to?

-What comes with it if you order just the 08E51-SDA-101A? Just the alarm control box, the microphone, and a warning label for the window? Is the "Attachment" (08E55-SDA-100A) a kit of ALL the other parts I'll need to install the alarm? That is the feeling I am getting from this PDF: http://www.handa-accessories.com/acc...d-security.pdf

It gets worse :

This page: SECURITY SYSTEM (LX/VP/SE) Honda OEM Parts -- 2007 HONDA ACCORD for 4DR VP - Automatic
suggests that the alarm comes only with the alarm control box and microphone, but not the warning label for the window, which is a separate part number (08E51-SV4-1M008). It also suggests that 08E51-SDA-101A is discontinued, and it looks like it was replaced by 08E51-SDA-101R1. I am suspicious though, because when I drop '08E51-SDA-101R1' into Google, nothing really comes up, whereas the other part numbers return lots of hits.

-Is there a Honda part number for the 'kit' which includes both the alarm control box (and whatever comes with it, either the microphone only or the microphone and the warning label for the window) AND
the "Attachment" set (which appears to contain metal mounting brackets, the wiring harness, screws/bolts/ty-wraps, fuse, and fuse box label)?

-This site:
It
Says "Flashing L.E.D. status light is in clear view to warn that the security system is armed. "

I thought I had read that the flashing LED light was a feature of the 'upgrade' alarm which has the siren? The LED can also flash diagnostically to indicate which zone was triggered.

However, in none of the PDFs did I see an LED or instructions for installing one, or any alarm programming information. Where is this info? (or is the page wrong about this alarm having an LED)?

Yes, I realize I am WAY overthinking this.
Thanks!!

Q1 -What is the difference between the 08E51-SDA-101A and the 08E55-SDA-100B?

A1 - Honda part # 08E51-SDA-101A works for 03-05 sedan LX, 06-07 sedan VP, LX, and SE and needs attachment kit 08E55-SDA-100A.

Honda part #08E51-SDA-100B works for 03-05 sedan DX and needs attachment kit 08E55-SDA-100B. It appears there were no DX trim for 06-07; therefore, it is not listed as for 06-07.

08E55-SDA-100A and 08E55-SDA-100B are attachment kits, not the security unit and mic.

Q2 -Does one have a 'real' siren vs honking the horn? Are there other differences?

A2 - Should only honk the horn, as a siren option was not part of the kit.

Q3 -I assume I should order the 08E51-SDA-101A / Attachment# 08E55-SDA-100A for a 2007 Accord VP, right?

A3 - Yes, 08E51-SDA-101A and attachment kit 08E55-SDA-100A for your 2007 VP.

Q4 -Would it even be POSSIBLE to install the 08E55-SDA-100B/ Attachment 08E55-SDA-100B in this car if I wanted to?

A4 - 08E55-SDA-100B is only the attachment kit and for a 2003-05 DX, not specified for your 07 VP. Probably not possible; unless, you modded harness. The harnesses are different.

Q5 -What comes with it if you order just the 08E51-SDA-101A? Just the alarm control box, the microphone, and a warning label for the window? Is the "Attachment" (08E55-SDA-100A) a kit of ALL the other parts I'll need to install the alarm? That is the feeling I am getting from this PDF: http://www.handa-accessories.com/acc...d-security.pdf

A5 -Refer back to A3 for what you need.

Q6 - It gets worse :

This page: SECURITY SYSTEM (LX/VP/SE) Honda OEM Parts -- 200 HONDA ACCORD for 4DR VP - Automatic
suggests that the alarm comes only with the alarm control box and microphone, but not the warning label for the window, which is a separate part number (08E51-SV4-1M008).

A6 - 08E51-SDA-101R1 is only a replacement control box unit and mic., does not include the security label. This is if someone already had the add-on security system and the control unit was faulty and needed just those parts replaced.

Q7 --Is there a Honda part number for the 'kit' which includes both the alarm control box (and whatever comes with it, either the microphone only or the microphone and the warning label for the window) AND
the "Attachment" set (which appears to contain metal mounting brackets, the wiring harness, screws/bolts/ty-wraps, fuse, and fuse box label)?

A7 - Refer back to A3.

Q8 --This site:
It
Says "Flashing L.E.D. status light is in clear view to warn that the security system is armed.

A8 - LED appears to already be incorporated in the gauge control module (instruments panel). It will be activated with the add-on Honda security system.

Owner's manual can be viewed here:

Q9 - Yes, I realize I am WAY overthinking this.

Q9 - Yes.

With that settled, my next question is; I want to have an alarm and remote start. As far as I can tell, the alarm module discussed above don't provide any remote start function and there is no Honda remote start option for this vehicle.

Would it be best to get a Honda OEM alarm and then go have an aftermarket remote-starter installed? Or should I skip the OEM alarm and just go to Best Buy and get a DEI alarm with remote starter module?

Concerns;
-It would be nice to use ONLY the Honda key for the alarm and remote-starter (so as not to have to carry an additional fob). Obviously if I use the OEM alarm, my existing keys will arm/disarm the alarm and lock/unlock the doors and trunk. Are there any aftermarket alarms or remote starters that can be activated with my existing key?

-I have seen other installs on vehicles with keys with security 'chips' in them where the car won't start without the key present. Sometimes the installer finds a way to permanently disable the circuit that checks for the 'chip' in the key, or takes your spare key and puts it in a box in the car to bypass this, but to me, that seems really stupid; if you don't want you car stolen, why leave your spare key inside it? Even if the thief can't find it quickly, it's still making the whole point of having a 'chip' in the key completely useless. Is there a remote start system that integrates with the Honda in such a way that you can remote start it but not leave it vulnerable to theft?

Thanks
