advice on A/C repairs for Honda Accord 2003 EX
A couple weeks ago the A/C starts to go during stop/go traffic so I took it to the dealership this past weekend (I'm by no means a car person, the most work I've done on a car before is to install an alternator). They say it would cost $507 to have them repair the service valve which is leaking freon and $553 for cooling fan motor replace. Or both could be done for about $750. I plan on finding a reputable A/C specialist in the area to give a second opinion this weekend.
With the summer heat (Houston), I'm aware something needs to get sdone before the car overheats. After taking it to the dealership, it's now worse than before as there is absolutely NO cool air coming out.
Regardless of the inordinate cost at the dealership, I'm just looking for some technical advice as to whether either of these could be put off without risking further additional problems or if there is any general advice on how to deal with this.
Thanks

As long as you disable AC (turn OFF), the car can be driven. I would avoid prolonged idle as much as possible, but I think you'll be OK as long as AC is off.
My sympathies as I drive in Houston also, and it's been brutal lately; consistent high humidity and temps.
I agree a 2nd opinion on work is indicated. Check w/ AC specialist shops for quotes on this service work.
good luck
