Air Conditioning System Leak
I have finished replacing the entire a/c system (except hoses and electronics). I pumped the system down but discovered that there is a leak or leaks some where in the system. It only takes about 10 seconds for the system to leak from about 26 in Hg vacuum to atmosphere.
If I pressurize the system with about 50 psi of dry air from my air compressor to check for leaks, will I damage the system?

The system is completely dry, I haven't even added oil yet. To use dye, I would have to charge the system and I think the leak(s) may be to large that I could damage the compressor.
Such a large leak suggests you may have assembled one of the connections w/ a bad oring or damaged the oring during installation. You should be able to introduce adequate charge for leak detection by pulling vacuum and charging into the vacuum. Charge w/ dead cold engine at night and heat the refrigerant w/ hot water to force as much as possible into the system w/o compressor running. Refrigerant will flow as long as system temp is < refrigerant reservoir temp.
You should be able to hear the leak. Get a young person w/ good ears to listen when/where it's quiet.
good luck
