Only Honda ATF?
High to all. I recently purchased an 02 EX 4cyl. w/ an AT. I haven't driven the car but 20 miles because it needs a few interior pieces. The car is a solid 8.5 looks wise. My question is do you all only recommend Honda brand ATF? Can I not use a Castrol brand at Advance Auto that states it is compatible? Don't mind spending the $$$ but only if really necessary. BTW I did a search and came up empty but plenty of vets stated "use only Honda ATF." Thanks in advance. (No pun intended)
All you can find will be reports that Honda ATF improved shift performance and corrected minor trans problems. You only need to change every 2-3 yrs, so not a major expense. I used Walmart ATF for several years in my 90 Accord w/o problems until I became a convert to Honda ATF. No particular reason except the testimonials were compelling.
good luck

The biggest reason for Honda ATF is the smaller lubricating molecules.
The shift valves fit into the valve body with no seals, just a very tight fit to the bore.
Cleaning properties come into play as well, any varnish build up will cause the shift valves to bind a little and shift slower.

Well I got the tranny fluid changed. The old fluid was light reddish brown. Didn't seem too bad but I wanted extra piece of mind. BTW took a 30-35 mile drive and everything seemed well. Now as soon as I get the inside put together this will be the daily driver. Thank you both TX Honda & HondaDude.[sm=shades.gif]
