Default Airbag light comes on and stays on during drive: 2003 Honda Accord Couple V6

Hi,

I have a 2003 Honda Accord Couple Ex-L V6 w/Nav and the Airbag light comes on and stays on during driving. It is solid red. This just started this morning.

The car now has 220,000 miles. It is an automatic.

Do anyone has any recommendations for a fix?

I am planning to take it autozone to see if there are any OBD codes to be read.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks in Advance.

Take it to the Honda dealer. They'll read the codes, and look to see if the PO ever had any SRS parts replaced. I only say that, as the sensor for the front seat belts can turn the SRS light on. It could also have a "bad" air bag.

Put a driver side seat belt latch in it.

Point I was trying to make by taking it to the dealer, is that part should be still covered under warranty. We did that with my wife's 2000 Accord, and found it was in the passenger seat belt. The dealer replaced it free of charge.

You are correct, seat belts are lifetime warranty providing the car is not a salvaged vehicle. BUT, most dealers will still charge diagnostic time before they replace the part.

Cheaper to buy the part and do it yourself if you are so inclined.

Right, but just randomly changing the left one might not fix the problem, especially if it's actually the right side one that needs replacing. It might be better to have the dealer read the code. Also, since it's a 2003, it might need to have it's air bag replaced since it might be on the recall list (if it hasn't already been swapped). Just thinking out loud here.

According to the diagrams, both the right and left front seat belt latches can trigger the light. By the very nature of the use of the drivers side more frequently, it is unlikely the passenger side is at fault. I replaced mine not too long ago, and have never seen a passenger side failure yet.

Thanks Gents. It was the driver side seat belt latch that needed fixing. You guys and gals are awesome! Thanks. I am still trying to keep my 2003 Accord coupe EX-L 3.0L V6 going. I tell you its getting harder. Spent quite a bit of money this last year to keep her running. And running she is, rather smoothe sin 2023 still!!
