Default Alternator for 01 accord

Hey guys, you may have noticed i'm new here but I have a question.
I drive a 01 Accord EX V6 and the altnerator is squealing, does it take much of any skill to to extract and replace this or do i need special tools (tools not common to a tool box) or any talent to get this done in an hour or two? I dont really have alot of free time in a day and didnt wanna go tearing in there only to find its a bigger project than expected. Thanks for your help

Before replacing, the noise could be from a loose belt or worn out belt. You should inspect the grooved side of the belt for horizontal cracks, etc.

You can also adjust the tension on the belt to see if that eliminates the noise. I am not sure how that belt is tensioned on a V6.

Most parts stores will test the battery, alternator, and battery at the same time. If the alternator is not charging the battery, then I would replace.

If the alternator is bad, here are two DIYs:

Many of the 6th gen Accords came with the Delphi alternators. The Delphi alternator diodes may fail and cause a whining or moaning noise. Additionally, the alternator would get very hot.

Even if the belt LOOKS good, you can check by spraying it with water while it's squeaking. (windex bottle, not garden hose)

If it's the belt, the noise will stop or at least change radically. With age & heat, the belt gets hard & slippery. Simply over-tightening a bad belt will eventually cause problems with the alternator bearings.

Yeah if its -20 below idk if water is a good idea lol. jp. but its not like a belt squeak/chirp its like a bearing failing type squeak. I was listening around and the idler bearing on tensioner seems fine as in no additional noise that one usuallly makes, the compressor seems to be quit but the alternator is what makes strange noises every now and then or so i think. and heres the kicker, it only does it sometimes as in does it now but later it sounds great, usually cant hear it when slightly reving, and never when the engine is cold only warm to hot. so idk

Dont have meter but probabaly gonna have autozone see if volts are good yet then go from there. and if its idler or alt i'll get new belt anyway just because i'm already in there anyways

I think the V-6 waterpump is driven by the timing belt, like it is on the 4-cyl. If so, you can run the engine without the external drive belts. (Don't run the engine without the waterpump.) If it still squeaks then you start looking at timing-belt tensioner bearings.
