2008 V6.: Do I really need to remove the fan in order to change my alternator? The bottom bolts on the fan look like a pain for a guy fixing a car in his driveway.

 

You won't have to remove the fan unless you can't access all the alternator bolts or the tensioner to remove the belt.

The fan shroud usually has slots to fit behind the bolt on the bottom, so you may just need to loosen it a turn to remove the fan and not have to remove the whole bolt.
