Default Always change wheel bearing in pairs?

I changed one of my front wheel bearings and that tookcare of all the rumbling noise while driving.

I read that the wheel bearings should be changed in pairs. Is that true and why?

why replace in pairs if you can identify the problem? I've never heard this from someone having to pay for the job.

Yes, because they're both exactly the same age and the same mileage.

No, because there really isn't a lot of duplicated work. IOW, you don't waste duplicated labor time or labor $$ taking the same thing apart next month when the other one wears out. Or next year. Or 3 years...

Personally, I go along with the NO philosophy. When one goes bad, I simply get emotionally (& financially) prepared to replace the other one 'soon'.
