Default Another Accord tranny issue

98 Accord LX v6 auto. Sometimes it will shift up through at least 3rd but shifts hard. Sometimes it just acts like there is no gear there after 1st or after 2nd. Once driven I can not select reverse unless I shut the car off. Restart, then I have reverse.

Electrical or transmission shot?

I moved to a new thread. Always best to start your own thread for best response.

Is D4 light flashing or Check Engine Light On? If yes, get the codes and post them.

good luck

D4 is not flashing. Check engine light has a P0730 fault. Once cleared it will return after attempting to drive a bit.

P0730 is a faulty shift control system.

On earlier models (1994) code 7 which I think corresponds to P0730 was a fault in shift control solenoid valve A circuit (solenoid, wire, or connector open or shorted).

Suggest removing, cleaning, inspecting and confirming the solenoids (solenoids A and B are a single unit) throw when 12V is applied. If you find a solenoid fault, a replacement part is necessary.

If they check OK, you could have a wiring or connector fault. This is more difficult but can be checked by disconnecting the correct connector to the TCU and checking wires for continuity from TCU connector to Solenoid A/B connector.

good luck

I have checked out the solenoids per the book. Both resistance, 12 volt across them and also removed the B & C and I believe it is the A solenoid which is a combined 2 solenoids. Everything says it is ok, although initially it didn't want to shift into second at all until I pulled and cleaned the last 2. I will try pulling the connector from the ECU. Thank You for your help!
